Back Waters of Barisal

Dhaka-Sonargaon-Barisal-Dhaka (5 Nights 6 Days)



Day 01:  Arrival

Arrive Dhaka airport and be received by our representative and transfer to designated hotel for overnight. If time permits, we will visit the National Parliament building –the master piece of world famous Architect Louis I. Kahn. Return to hotel for overnight stay.


Day 02: Dhaka –Sonargaon –Dhaka –Barisal

After breakfast drive to Sonargaon (30 km) the old capital of Golden Bengal. The city was under Turkish Sultanate during 1280 AD. The main attractions of Sonargaon are ruins of Panam -the dead city, Goaldi Mosque and the rich Folk Art Museum with the panoramic lake and gardens. 

Drive back to Dhaka and visit the most ornamented Star Mosque & Lalbagh Fort of 16th century, Curzon Hall of Dhaka University, Language memorial monument, Dhakeswari Temple and the wonderful historical Ahsan Manzil –the palace of Muslim Nawab known as Pink Palace.

After 6 pm transfer to the exotic Sadarghat launch terminal, crowded with different type of boats and crafts. Every day hundreds & thousands of passengers are transported by motor launches to and from far off places through this river port. You can find here the heritage paddle wheel steamer commonly called as Rocket Steamer Service built during British colonial period still in service and playing very important role for safe transport.

Immediately board on the water vessel upon arrival the launch terminal. The vessel will start cruising towards Barisal at 7:00 – 7:30 pm. Stay overnight on board.


Day 03: Barisal

Early morning around 5/6 am, disembark from the vessel and transfer to hotel. Check into hotel and take rest. After breakfast start your journey to explore Barisal; visit 400 years old – Durga Sagar –an area of migratory birds movement in winter, Guthia Mosque (single largest mosque in this part of the country), local market, Oxford Mission Epiphany Church (built in 1900 AD) & School.

Afternoon, we will have typical Bengali lunch at a village house. After lunch, enjoy the village life and get experience of local activities; like –making prayer mat for Muslims by Hogala can, manual hand fan by Hogala leaf/ palm tree leaf, basket and rice pot, watch the manually rice husking process by paddle husking pump (Dheki) and so on. Then back to hotel, dinner and overnight.


Day 04: Back Water Cruise

In early morning start for the desired river port for back water cruise. We will cruise by country motor boat. Start cruising for country’s largest floating markets. You will find 2-3 hundred wooden canoe boats with full of fruits & vegetables involve with these floating trade activities.  Beside this here you will watch floating sugarcane gardens and hog palm gardens and so on. Miles after miles you will enjoy this back water cruise. Sometime you will watch 2/3 canal junction. We will pass lots of canals in a day. The natural beauty may amaze you for a long. When the shadow of big trees beside the canals falling on water, it seems like a Swamp Forest.

Enjoy the lunch in a traditional village restaurant. Enjoy the cruise and back to the land. Transfer to river port, board on the water vessel at 7 pm and cruise back to Dhaka, overnight journey.


Day 05: Dhaka

Arrive Dhaka at early morning like 5/6 am. Transfer to hotel immediately upon arrival, check in and get rest. Free leisure day at your own. Overnight stay Dhaka.


Day 06: Departure

After breakfast free at your own and transfer to airport for onward destination.

Note: 1. Launch/ steamer start usually after 7pm from Dhaka and arrive Barisal at early morning like 5/6 am and leave Barisal & arrive Dhaka at the same.

2. Every water vessel has its own canteen, but we don’t suggest taking any food from the canteen. Foods are not enough hygienic.

3. In Barisal, we will provide rickshaw ride for all transfer.

4. All meal will be included during Barisal trip.

Lalbagh Fort: Summer Season (Apr–Sep): Tuesday –Thursday: 1030–1830 hrs, Friday: 1030–1230 hrs & 1430–1830 hrs and Monday: 1430–1830 hrs

Winter Season (Oct–Mar): Tuesday –Thursday: 0930–0500 hrs, Friday: 0930–1230 hrs & 1430–1800 hrs and Monday: 1430–1800 hrs

Month of Ramadan: Tuesday –Thursday: 1000–1600 hrs

Sunday: Weekly off day and remain closed on all Govt. holidays


Dhakeswari Temple: Temple gate closed everyday between 1300–1600 hrs.


Ahsan Manzil: Summer Season (Apr–Sep): Saturday –Wednesday: 1030–1830 hrs, Friday: 1500–1830 hrs

Winter Season (Oct–Mar): Saturday –Wednesday: 0930–1800 hrs, Friday: 1500–1800 hrs

Month of Ramadan: Saturday –Wednesday: 1000–1600 hrs

Thursday: Weekly off day and remain closed on all Govt. holidays
